The Florida prosecutor who was suspended by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis for his refusal to charge doctors or abortion patients for illegally terminating pregnancies is vowing to put up a “vigorous defense” legally. DeSantis suspended Andrew Warren, a Democrat state attorney, on Aug. 4 during a news conference where he said that the prosecutor didn’t enforce duly-passed laws that crack down on child sex change surgeries and certain abortion procedures.

Republicans on Sunday heaped scorn on Democrats for passing a multibillion-dollar economic package, warning that it would come back to haunt them in the November midterms.  “Democrats will pay the price in November for raising taxes on families during a recession,” Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.

The Senate Sunday passed the Democrats’ social spending and taxation bill after a marathon “vote-a-rama” session that lasted more than 15 hours, marking a major win for the Democratic agenda just over three months before Election Day.  Vice President Harris cast a tiebreaking vote to allow the legislation to pass 51-50.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, slammed Democrats for pushing their spending bill and “lying” to Americans as a marathon voting session on the party’s social spending and taxation bill continued.  Speaking during an exclusive interview with “Sunday Mornings Futures,” Cruz argued that the bill will “kill manufacturing jobs” and “hammer small businesses” as well as “drive up gas prices.

Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., denied on Sunday that the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act would increase taxes for Americans amid a period of high inflation and possibly a recession. “Fox News Sunday” host Mike Emanuel asked Cardin if he was concerned even after Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., once said that a recession is the wrong time to raise taxes, noting how economists warned that more spending by the government could aggravate supply chain issues seen over the past year.

As the U.S. Senate kicked off its budget reconciliation Vote-a-rama Saturday night, one senator used a few moments to highlight Rep. Jackie Walorski and members of her staff, who died in a car accident this week. “Mr. President, I rise today to honor the lives of four Hoosiers were lost tragically in a car accident this week,” said Sen. Todd Young, R-IN, before the Senate chamber.

The first Senate GOP amendments in Saturday night’s vote-a-rama include provisions on energy, the border and the IRS, as the Republicans try to kill Democrats’ social spending bill – or at least make it politically painful to pass.  Perhaps the most likely to succeed is an amendment to codify the Title 42 immigration policy from Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla. It may put the several Democrats who’ve said they support the policy in a tight spot, including Sen.

Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren dismissed reports that Democrats are foregoing coronavirus testing in order to allow the maximum number of senators to vote for the party’s social spending and taxation bill on Saturday night. “No. And oh, please,” Warren said when asked if she was told not to test for COVID in order to participate in Saturday’s “Vote-a-Rama.

Former President Donald Trump on Friday pledged to campaign in West Virginia against Sen. Joe Manchin because of the Democrat’s $739 billion tax hike and climate change deal.  Trump said that Manchin and Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, who are both up for reelection in 2024, would pay a heavy political price for agreeing to back the deal after previously withholding their support.
